Czarkologie was created in 2010 by pianist/composer Anthony Czarnecki and violinist/conductor Eileen Kosasih. The music of Czarkologie is rooted in Anthony's jazz compositions (first performed/recorded by the Gerry Hebert Quartet). Anthony rewrote his music in classical style for the duo to perform as Czarkologie. While the pieces are generally through-composed, there are moments for improvisation. The original music of Czarkologie explores rich traditions of structure, color and rhythmic diversity from classical and jazz to world and modern sources. Programs often feature guest instrumentalists on percusssion, winds and strings, expanding the duo up to a septet. Czarkologie Quartet has performed with Luis Tovar and Jeremy Coates on percussion and bass for Calgary's Springboard Performance at Sunnyside ContainR. Some of Czarkologie's repertoire was performed by Calgary Arts Orchestra. More recently, Czarkologie has performed at King Eddy, Mikey's on 12th, ProArts Society, Andrew's Coffeehouse, and Gravity Espresso + Wine Bar.
Before joining forces, Eileen and Anthony enjoyed diverse performing careers around Canada and the US. Anthony played for Barrage, Stage West, Alberta Ballet, and cruise companies. His current work involves arranging for local theatre
companies, schools, and Calgary Arts Orchestra. Eileen is a core member of Symphony of the Kootenays and concertmaster of Rocky Mountain Symphony, and has performed with various music scenes around the U.S. and Canada. Eileen founded and directed Calgary Arts Orchestra. Both studied instrumental music performance in university and attribute much of their success and versatility to the variety and wealth of independent work they have done.
